Are weight loss jabs right for me?

Still not sure? Ask yourself these questions:

If you’re on the fence, here are some helpful questions to ask yourself:

  • Have I already tried to lose weight with changes to food and movement, and still struggled?

  • Do I have any health conditions related to weight or insulin resistance?

  • Would I benefit from less food noise, fewer cravings, or help with portion control?

  • Am I prepared to commit to the process, including possible side effects, lifestyle changes, and regular check-ins?

  • Do I want this as a long-term support tool, not just a quick fix?

If you answered yes to most of these, it might be worth speaking to a qualified prescriber. If not, that’s ok too. These meds aren’t the only option, and they’re definitely not the easy way out.

It’s not a miracle, but it might be your missing piece

GLP-1s won’t magically do the work for you. But for many people, they unlock the ability to make real, lasting changes by finally quieting the constant hunger, cravings, and inner battle around food.

They’re not right for everyone. But if you’re someone who’s been stuck in the cycle for years, and you're ready for real support, this might be the thing that helps everything click into place.

Just make sure you do it the right way.

Who shouldn’t take GLP-1s?

There are certain people who should avoid these medications unless advised otherwise by a specialist. That includes those who:

  • Have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer

  • Have pancreatitis, severe gastrointestinal issues, or gallbladder disease

  • Are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding

  • Are already at a healthy weight or underweight

GLP-1s are not for cosmetic weight loss or for people who are just hoping to drop a dress size for a wedding. These are serious medications designed to support people with medical needs.

“My mate knows a place…” — Why that’s a massive red flag

We get it. Someone in your group chat says they’ve got a “guy” who can get it cheaper. Or you see an Instagram ad promising next-day delivery with no questions asked.

Here’s why that’s a bad idea:

  • This is black market sourcing. You don’t know what you’re getting; it could be expired, mishandled, fake, or not GLP-1 at all.

  • You’re not being monitored. No screening, no follow-ups, no dose titration, and no support if something goes wrong.

  • You’re gambling with your health. These meds change how your gut and pancreas behave. That’s not something to play fast and loose with.

If it seems too easy to get, it probably isn’t legit. Your body deserves better than bootleg meds from the corner of someone’s mouldy and damp backroom.

Stick to trusted, licensed providers who will actually monitor you properly. It might cost more or take longer, but it’s worth it!

Thinking about starting a GLP-1 like Mounjaro or Ozempic?

You're not alone. These medications have become one of the most talked-about tools for weight loss and metabolic health, and for good reason. But they’re not right for everyone, and this isn’t a decision to make lightly.

Who can take a GLP-1?

In the UK, there are two routes to access GLP-1 medications:

1. Privately (through a clinic or prescriber)

You’ll usually qualify if:

  • Your BMI is 30 or above

  • Or your BMI is 27+ with a weight-related condition (like PCOS or prediabetes)

Some clinics may have their own additional criteria, but that’s the general rule of thumb. You’ll typically fill in a health form, speak to a prescriber, and be given a personalised plan.

2. On the NHS

As of June 2025, Mounjaro is now available via GP prescription, but only for a small group of patients:

  • You need a BMI over 40

  • And four out of five of the following conditions: Type 2 diabetes High blood pressure Heart or vascular disease High cholesterol Obstructive sleep apnoea

It’s a staggered rollout, so access will widen over the next few years. But for now, only a very specific group will be eligible via the NHS.
